The 76ers fell twice this weekend
at the Iowa State Tourney. They
opened tourney play with a (4-0)
victory over the Cedar Rapids
Cougars on Friday. Sean Johnson
(6-0) tossed a masterful one hit
shutout while Gregg Thissen, Ike
Roush, Casey Raisbeck, and Chase
Stephens added doubles. On Saturday
the 76ers lost a (5-1) decision to
Ladora Red Top as the 76ers only
managed to score on a Grant
Grimmett sac fly. On Sunday they
bowed out with a disappointing (1-0)
loss to the Osage North Stars. Chase
Stephens (6-1), was the hard luck
loser, tossing a no hitter as the 76ers
committed three costly 4th inning
errors to allow the only Osage run.
The 76ers were left short handed by
a couple missing starters and went to
battle having to play two pitchers in
the lineup. The two missing starters
were the second and fourth place
hitters and the 76ers sorely missed
their presence in the batting order.
The 76ers battled the weather man
all summer, but still conclude yet
another fine season with their
18th Black Hawk Valley Conference
title in the last 19 years and finish
with a glossy (27-8) record.
